Best Time to Post on TikTok in 2026: Find Yours in 7 Days

Skip the generic charts: a 7-day test that finds your own best TikTok slot, plus an API script that schedules it and reads the views back.

Best Time to Post on TikTok in 2026: Find Yours in 7 Days

Short answer: There is no single best time to post on TikTok that works for every account. TikTok says your videos reach people through the For You feed, which is shaped by what each viewer interacts with, not by a clock (TikTok). The best time is when your audience is on the app, and you find it in about a week. Check when your followers are active in TikTok Studio's analytics, schedule the same kind of video into two or three slots, and compare the averages per slot. Below are the steps, a tracking template, and a short API script that schedules the test and reads the views back for you.

Key Takeaways

Point Details
No universal hour The For You feed is shaped by viewer interactions such as likes, comments and follows
Where the data lives TikTok Studio → Analytics, on Personal and Business accounts; you may have to turn analytics on first
The method 3 slots × 2 posts over 6 days, same format, then compare averages per slot on day 7
Time zones Pick one time zone for the test; our API refuses a scheduled time without one
Reading results Our API collects post figures every 6 hours for the first 7 days, on networks that report them
Cost The REST API is on every plan; the test's 6 posts fit in the Free plan's 30 a month

Why there's no single best time to post on TikTok

Most "best time to post" charts are averages across thousands of accounts, in someone else's time zone, for someone else's audience. Your followers might be night-shift nurses, students in another country, or parents who scroll after 9 pm. A chart can't know that.

TikTok's own explanation points the same way. It says the For You feed is shaped by "a number of factors, including interactions, such as liking a video, posting a comment or following an account," and that it uses a technique called collaborative filtering, which "uses similarities between users to predict relevant or interesting content" (TikTok, 29 Aug 2025). Nothing in that description rewards a particular hour.

Timing still matters for one reason: the first interactions. If you post while the people most likely to watch are asleep, those first likes and comments arrive later, or not at all. So the useful question isn't "what time does TikTok like?" It's "when is my audience actually on the app?" Only your own numbers can answer that. For the general version of this idea across every network, see how to optimize posting times.

What's known about TikTok's algorithm in 2026 (and what isn't)

You may have heard that the US has "a new TikTok algorithm." Here's what's on the record:

  • On 23 January 2026 TikTok announced that the TikTok USDS Joint Venture had been established for its US users. The announcement says the venture "will retrain, test, and update the content recommendation algorithm on U.S. user data" (TikTok Newsroom).
  • On 10 October 2026, Kaleido reported that "nobody outside the venture has shown that the For You feed's recommendations, creators' reach, or their payouts changed because of it." The last public word it found was in February, when NPR reported a TikTok spokeswoman "saying no changes had been made" (Kaleido).

So any advice to "post at exactly 7 pm for the new US algorithm" is a guess. Run your own test instead.

Step 1: Find when your followers are active in TikTok Studio

TikTok's analytics sit inside TikTok Studio. TikTok says its creator tools "are available for both Personal and Business Accounts," so you don't need to switch account type first (TikTok Help Center).

Where How to open analytics
TikTok app Tap Profile, tap the Menu ☰ button, select TikTok Studio, then Analytics
Web browser Go to tiktok.com/tiktokstudio, log in, and open Analytics
One post Tap More insights at the bottom of the post on your profile

On the web, analytics are split into Key metrics (account performance), Content (individual video metrics) and Followers (TikTok Help Center). TikTok adds that "you may have to turn on analytics to see certain metrics," and that analytics are among the features "best accessed from a web browser" (same page).

Then find Most Active Times. Shopify's TikTok guide says it's under the Viewers tab, where you can "toggle between Hours and Days to see the days and times your audience was most active over the past week," and that with "100 or more followers, you can select the Followers tab" for your followers' most active days and times (Shopify). Write down the top two or three hours, and which time zone the chart uses. If it isn't obvious, compare it with the time of a post you know.

New account, no chart yet? Skip straight to the test. Pick a morning, an afternoon and an evening slot in your audience's time zone. The test works without the chart.

Step 2: Run a 6-day timing test

  1. Pick three slots. Use the busiest follower hour plus one slot on either side of it, or morning, afternoon and evening if you have no chart.
  2. Keep the content steady. Testing one great video against one weak one tells you nothing about timing. Use the same format, a similar length and a similar hook.
  3. Rotate. Over days 1–6, give every slot two posts. That's 6 posts in total.
  4. Schedule the posts so you aren't tied to your phone at 7 am. TikTok Studio can "upload, schedule, and edit posts" (TikTok Help Center). For more on native scheduling versus a tool, see TikTok scheduling explained.

Step 3: Read the results on day 7

For each video, record the same numbers after the same amount of time, for example 48 hours: views, likes, comments, shares and follows. Then compare averages per slot, not single videos. One video that takes off can make a slot look great by luck.

Keep the winner, and next week test one new slot against it. Your audience changes over time, so the test never really ends.

A template to copy

Video Slot (audience time zone) Format Views at 48 h Likes Comments Shares Follows
1 08:00 talking head
2 13:00 talking head
3 19:00 talking head
4 08:00 talking head
5 13:00 talking head
6 19:00 talking head

Real example: schedule the test and read the views with an API

Filling in that table by hand is tedious. With the Status 200 Uploads API you can schedule all six posts in one go and read each post's figures back later. Here's the flow for one post; repeat it for each slot.

1. Find the privacy levels your TikTok account accepts. GET https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/accounts/{profile_id}/options answers with privacy_level_options, "the only TikTok privacy levels it will accept in post.tiktok.privacyLevel" (API docs).

2. Import the video once. POST https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/media with the video's URL returns a file_id. A large file answers "status": "processing", so check GET /api/v2/media?file_id=… until it says "ready" (API docs). For a scheduled TikTok video, send the file_id rather than a link: a link is only fetched when the post goes out, and a TikTok video whose host doesn't state its size is refused (video_size_unknown) (API docs).

3. Schedule it for the slot, with a time zone:

curl -X POST 'https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/posts' \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer rl_your_api_key' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Idempotency-Key: tiktok-test-day1-0800' \
  -d '{
    "post": {
      "accountId": "@myprofile",
      "platform": "tiktok",
      "scheduledFor": "2026-10-21T08:00:00+02:00",
      "content": {
        "text": "Day 1, 08:00 slot #tiktoktips",
        "mediaID": ["YOUR_FILE_ID"]
      },
      "tiktok": { "privacyLevel": "PUBLIC_TO_EVERYONE" }
    }
  }'

What the docs say happens:

Detail What the API does
scheduledFor More than 60 seconds ahead, the post is scheduled (202), up to 365 days ahead and at most 500 posts waiting per account
No time zone Refused with 400 scheduled_for_invalid, reason no_time_zone, and nothing is sent
Idempotency-Key Send the same request again after a timeout and you get the first answer back; nothing is posted twice (answers are remembered for 24 hours)
Spacing A scheduled post doesn't take the one-post-per-network-every-20-seconds wait
Changing your mind DELETE /api/v2/posts/{scheduled_post_id} cancels a post that hasn't gone out

All of this is from the API docs. Keep the scheduled_post_id from each answer.

4. Read the numbers back. GET https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/posts/{scheduled_post_id} shows what became of the scheduled post. Once it has gone out, results has the network's post_id. GET /api/v2/posts/{post_id} then returns its figures. Our docs say: "Figures are collected every 6 hours during the first 7 days after publishing, on the networks that report them," with polled_at saying when. A figure the network didn't report is null and listed in not_reported, because "null never means zero" (API docs). That 7-day window fits this test exactly: read every post at the same age, drop the numbers into the template, and compare slots.

The REST API is on every plan, the Free plan included, and the Free plan has 30 successful posts a month, so a 6-post test fits (pricing). The dashboard also has analytics across your posts if you'd rather not write code (API docs).

Time zones: the mistake that ruins most tests

If your audience is in another country, "7 pm" means their 7 pm. Decide the test's time zone before you start, and write it next to every result. When you schedule through our API, put the offset in the time, like +02:00, or use Z for UTC. A time without a zone is refused rather than guessed (API docs).

What matters more than the hour

Timing helps at the edges. These help more:

  • A hook in the first second. Put on-screen text or movement right at the start.
  • A schedule you can keep. Posting steadily at a decent time beats a perfect plan you drop after a week.
  • Replies. Comments are one of the interactions TikTok names as signals for the For You feed (TikTok), so answer them and give people a reason to write.

FAQ

What is the best time to post on TikTok? There isn't one for every account. Check when your followers are active in TikTok Studio, test two or three slots for a week, and keep the slot with the best average.

Does posting time affect the TikTok algorithm? TikTok says the For You feed is shaped by interactions like likes, comments and follows. Posting when your audience is online helps those first interactions arrive sooner.

Do I need a Business account to see TikTok analytics? No. TikTok says its creator tools, which include analytics, are available for both Personal and Business accounts. You may have to turn analytics on first.

Did TikTok's algorithm change in the US in 2026? The new US joint venture said in January 2026 that it would retrain the algorithm on US data. As of October 2026, no outside party had shown that recommendations or reach changed.

How long should a TikTok timing test run? About a week: six days of posts, two per slot, then compare averages on day seven. Repeat with one new slot each week.

Can I schedule TikTok posts with an API? Yes. Our REST API schedules a TikTok video with a time zone up to 365 days ahead, on every plan including Free.
