Can Claude Post to Instagram? How to Do It With MCP
Claude can post to Instagram through a remote MCP connector. Where to add it in Claude, what Instagram needs, and the tool calls behind a Reel.

Short answer: Yes, through a connector. Claude takes actions in other services through connectors, and a custom connector is a remote MCP server you add by its URL. Anthropic says custom connectors work "on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans", with Free limited to one (Claude Help Center). Add our MCP server at https://mcp.status200uploads.com/mcp, sign in, and allow posting. Claude can then upload, check, publish and schedule Instagram posts for you. Our AI connector is included in every paid plan, from Beginner (integrations). Instagram needs an image or a video. It doesn't take text-only posts.

How Claude connects to Instagram
Posting happens through a connector. Anthropic describes connectors as the way Claude can "access your apps and services, retrieve your data, and take actions within connected services" (Claude Help Center).
A custom connector is a remote MCP server. "The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard, created by Anthropic, for AI applications to connect to tools and data." Claude reaches the server "from Anthropic's cloud infrastructure, rather than from your local device", so the server must be on the public internet (Claude Help Center).
So the chain is: you ask Claude, Claude calls a tool on the MCP server, and the server publishes to your connected Instagram account. Our server is hosted at https://mcp.status200uploads.com/mcp. Claude "can only access resources that you've given the server permission to access."
Add the connector in Claude
Anthropic's steps for individual Pro and Max plans (Claude Help Center):
- Go to Customize > Connectors.
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Enter a name, then the remote MCP server URL:
https://mcp.status200uploads.com/mcp. Click Continue. - Review the authentication settings Claude detected and click Continue, then Add.
On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector first in Organization settings > Connectors, and each member then connects to it individually.
When you connect, our side asks you to sign in. Our API docs describe it: "Add that address in your AI app, sign in to Status 200 Uploads on the page it opens, and choose whether the app may only read or may also post. No key is copied anywhere." Connected apps are listed under Dashboard → API, and Disconnect "cuts one off at once" (API docs).
To use it in a chat, open the + menu, then Connectors, and switch it on for that conversation. Anthropic recommends you "only click 'Allow always' when using a server and tool that you trust to run unsupervised."
Using Cursor instead? The integrations page has a ~/.cursor/mcp.json snippet with the same URL and an rl_ key in the Authorization header.
What Instagram needs
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Media | Required. Text-only posts are accepted for Threads, X, LinkedIn, Skool and Facebook, not Instagram (API docs) |
| Images | Up to 8 MB |
| Reels | Up to 15 minutes and 300 MB, "Instagram's own API limit" |
| Stories | Up to 60 seconds and 100 MB |
| Post types | feed_image, reel, story or carousel |
Limits from our file limits page. Our connector can also tell Claude how much of the account's rolling Instagram publishing limit is used, through status200_get_posting_options ("a null is not a zero").
Instagram also limits reach for accounts that mostly post other people's content. If Claude is preparing posts for you, keep them original: see Instagram's originality rules.
Example: what Claude does when you ask for a Reel
Say you write: "Schedule this Reel to Instagram for Monday 18:00 Ljubljana time: [link]. Caption: Behind the scenes of our launch." With our connector, Claude makes calls like these. The argument names are the connector's own.
1. Import the video from the link. status200_upload_media_from_url copies the file into your media library. A large file comes back processing, and Claude polls status200_get_media_status until it is ready.
{ "url": "https://example.com/launch-bts.mp4" }
2. Check the post without sending it. status200_validate_post "runs every check status200_publish_post would run and sends nothing". It answers publish, queue, refuse (with the reason) or unknown, which you should never read as a pass.
{
"text": "Behind the scenes of our launch.",
"media_ids": ["YOUR_FILE_ID"],
"targets": [
{ "profile_id": "YOUR_PROFILE_ID", "platform": "instagram",
"options": { "post_type": "reel", "share_to_feed": true } }
]
}
3. Schedule it. status200_schedule_post takes scheduled_at "ISO 8601 with a time zone"; "a time without a zone is refused."
{
"profile_id": "YOUR_PROFILE_ID",
"scheduled_at": "2026-10-26T18:00:00+01:00",
"text": "Behind the scenes of our launch.",
"media_ids": ["YOUR_FILE_ID"],
"targets": [ { "platform": "instagram", "options": { "post_type": "reel", "share_to_feed": true } } ]
}
Afterwards, status200_get_post shows whether it went out, and status200_get_post_performance reads the figures later. A figure Instagram didn't report is null, never zero.
A video on your own computer works too, if your AI app can run commands: our docs say it was "tested with Claude Code". The app asks for a one-time private upload link and the file is checked "(exact size, type and SHA-256) before it can be posted" (API docs). In the Claude chat app, upload the file in the dashboard (Media) and Claude finds it with status200_list_media.
No paid plan? The REST API does the same on every plan, Free included. The Instagram example from our docs:
curl -X POST 'https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/posts' \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-H 'Authorization: Bearer rl_your_api_key' \
-d '{
"post": {
"accountId": "@myprofile",
"platform": "instagram",
"content": { "text": "Behind the scenes of our launch.", "mediaID": ["YOUR_FILE_ID"] },
"instagram": { "postType": "reel", "shareToFeed": true }
}
}'

What Claude can't skip
Everything a connected app does "goes through the same rules as the REST API — your plan's post allowance, the X add-on, the 20-second spacing between posts — and it can only ever see the account that signed in" (API docs). An app you connected as read-only "is refused before the tool runs" when it tries to post. Posts are public once Instagram accepts them, and our tool descriptions note that Status 200 Uploads can't delete a post from the network afterwards.
Anthropic adds its own warnings: custom connectors connect Claude to services "that have not been verified by Anthropic", and you should "only connect to remote MCP servers that you trust."
FAQ
Can Claude post to Instagram for you? Yes, through a connector. Add a remote MCP server that can publish to Instagram, such as ours at https://mcp.status200uploads.com/mcp, sign in and allow posting. Claude then calls its tools when you ask.
Does the Claude Free plan support custom connectors? Yes. Anthropic says custom connectors are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free users are limited to one custom connector.
Which Status 200 Uploads plan includes the AI connector? Every paid plan, from Beginner. On Free you can use the REST API with your rl_ API keys instead.
Can Claude post a text-only post to Instagram? No. Instagram needs an image or a video. Text-only posts are accepted for Threads, X, LinkedIn, Skool and Facebook.
Can I let Claude read my posts but not publish? Yes. When you sign in, you choose whether the app may only read or may also post. A read-only app is refused before a posting tool runs.
