How to Schedule YouTube Shorts (Phone, Desktop, API)

Schedule a Short in YouTube Studio or the app, queue up to 15 at once on desktop, or set the time through an API. Plus why the date can look off.

How to Schedule YouTube Shorts (Phone, Desktop, API)

Short answer: Yes, you can schedule YouTube Shorts. A Short is uploaded like any other video, and YouTube's help says "You can use scheduled publishing to schedule a private video to go public at a specific time." You do it in YouTube Studio on a computer or in the YouTube app: upload the video, pick the Schedule card, then set the date, time and time zone. To schedule many Shorts, or Shorts next to other networks, you can also send the time through an API, like ours.

Key Takeaways

Point Details
Can you schedule Shorts? Yes. YouTube's scheduling steps start with "Sign in to YouTube Studio. Or use the YouTube app."
What counts as a Short On a computer, YouTube asks for a file "Up to 3 minutes." "With a square or vertical aspect ratio."
How it works The video stays private, then goes public at the time you set.
Many at once on desktop "You can choose up to 15 short videos at a time", then finish each with EDIT DRAFT.
The date under the video YouTube shows it "based on Pacific Standard Time (PST)", so it can differ from your local date.
Strikes With a Community Guidelines strike, "your scheduled video won't publish during the penalty period."
Through our API Send post.scheduledFor with a time zone, up to 365 days ahead. YouTube is on every plan, Free included.

How YouTube scheduling works for Shorts

There is no separate Shorts scheduler. YouTube's help on uploading Shorts says you "can upload a short-form vertical video as a Short", and our own YouTube page puts it the same way from the API side: "A Short is the same upload as any other video."

Scheduling itself is a privacy setting. YouTube's scheduling help says: "To schedule a video's publication time, you have to first set the video as "scheduled" or "private" on the upload page." The video then waits as private until your time comes.

How to schedule a YouTube Short on a computer

These are YouTube's own steps from the scheduling help, with the Shorts file rules from the Shorts upload help:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. Select CREATE, then Upload videos.
  3. Pick a short video file: "Up to 3 minutes." "With a square or vertical aspect ratio."
  4. Enter your video details.
  5. Click the Schedule card.
  6. "Set the date, time, and time zone that you want your video to be published."
  7. Select Schedule.

To change the time later, YouTube says to open Content, select the video, and edit its visibility: "To change the scheduled publish time, make sure the visibility is Private. Click EDIT DRAFT then choose the new time under "Schedule."" To publish it right away instead, set the visibility to Public.

How to schedule YouTube Shorts on iPhone or Android

YouTube's scheduling steps start with "Sign in to YouTube Studio. Or use the YouTube app." The flow is the same: upload, add details, pick the Schedule card, set the time.

On a phone, the Shorts upload steps in the YouTube app go like this:

  1. Tap Create, then Upload a video.
  2. Select a square or vertical video. "Videos up to 3 minutes will show a trim editor." For a longer video, YouTube offers Edit into a Short "to trim your video to 3 minutes or less."
  3. Tap NEXT to edit, then NEXT again "to add details to your video, such as a title (max 100 characters) and the privacy settings."
  4. In the details, choose the schedule option and set the date, time and time zone.

YouTube's help pages describe these steps in the same words for iPhone and Android, but they don't show every button on each phone, and app labels can change with updates. If you don't see a schedule option in the YouTube app, the separate YouTube Studio app has its own upload flow: "On the top, tap Create Upload a video."

One more thing to check on a phone: "The default video privacy setting for creators aged 13–17 is private. If you're 18 or older, your default video privacy setting is set to public." If you upload without picking a time, an adult's Short goes public right away.

How to bulk schedule YouTube Shorts

On a computer, YouTube Studio lets you upload a batch: "You can choose up to 15 short videos at a time, but be sure to click EDIT DRAFT to complete your video details before publishing." Give each draft its own title and time before you leave the page.

Past that, a scheduler or an API is the faster route. Through Status 200 Uploads you can schedule "up to 365 days ahead and at most 500 posts waiting per account" (from our API docs). Our YouTube page asks you to space them out: "leave at least a minute between them." If you schedule Instagram Reels and TikToks the same week, our Reels and Shorts guide covers the cross-platform side.

Schedule a Short through the API

Here is a real request to our REST API. It is the YouTube example from our YouTube page with a time added. Send it after you upload the file (you get a mediaID back):

curl -X POST 'https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/posts' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer rl_your_api_key' \
  -H 'Idempotency-Key: short-0007-youtube' \
  -d '{
    "post": {
      "accountId": "@yourchannel",
      "platform": "youtube",
      "scheduledFor": "2026-11-05T17:00:00+01:00",
      "content": {
        "text": "3 lighting fixes for small rooms #shorts",
        "mediaID": ["YOUR_FILE_ID"]
      },
      "youtube": {
        "title": "3 lighting fixes for small rooms",
        "privacyStatus": "public"
      }
    }
  }'

What our API docs say happens next:

  • The time needs a zone. "A time without a zone (even one in the past), a value that is not a date and time, or a time more than 365 days ahead is refused with 400 scheduled_for_invalid".
  • More than a minute ahead is scheduled. "More than 60 seconds ahead, the post is scheduled for that time (202 scheduled)". The post "is published at that time, usually within a few minutes of it."
  • Set the privacy. Our YouTube page says "a video sent without youtube.privacyStatus is uploaded as private, so only you can see it."
  • The answer is "processing". "Every YouTube post answers 202 with the status processing: the upload goes on in the background, and reading the post back gives the video's link once YouTube has it."
  • No separate Shorts switch. "Send a short vertical clip and YouTube shows it as a Short when it meets YouTube's own Shorts rules; there is no separate switch to set."

The difference from YouTube's own scheduler: YouTube uploads the video now and keeps it private until the time. Through us, the upload goes out at the scheduled time. If you send a file by web address instead of a mediaID, our YouTube page warns that "A scheduled post that names its media by web address fetches the file when it goes out, and we keep no copy", so keep that file online until then.

From n8n

In n8n, use an HTTP Request node with POST to https://status200uploads.com/api/v2/posts. Our YouTube page suggests "an Idempotency-Key such as {{ $json.id }}-youtube so a retried run uploads once." Add scheduledFor to the body above, and each run schedules the Short for that time instead of posting it at once.

YouTube is "on every plan, Free included", and you "never create a Google Cloud project or ask for an API quota." The Free plan has 30 successful posts a month across all platforms (see pricing).

Why your scheduled Short shows a different date

YouTube says the date on the watch page "is based on Pacific Standard Time (PST)". If you're in Europe and schedule a Short for early morning, the watch page can show the day before. YouTube's advice: "schedule it to go public on that date, in Pacific Standard Time."

When a scheduled Short doesn't go out

YouTube names one case in its scheduling help: "If your account has a Community Guidelines strike, your scheduled video won't publish during the penalty period." The video stays private, and "you have to reschedule it when the freeze period ends."

FAQ

Can you schedule YouTube Shorts? Yes. Upload the Short in YouTube Studio or the YouTube app, pick the Schedule card, and set the date, time and time zone. It stays private until then.

Can you schedule YouTube Shorts on iPhone or Android? Yes. YouTube's scheduling steps say "Sign in to YouTube Studio. Or use the YouTube app." The YouTube Studio app also has its own upload flow if you can't find the option.

How many Shorts can I schedule at once? In YouTube Studio on a computer, you can choose up to 15 short videos at a time and finish each with EDIT DRAFT. Through our API, up to 500 posts can wait per account, up to 365 days ahead.

Why does my scheduled Short show the wrong date? YouTube shows the "Published on" date in Pacific Standard Time, so a Short scheduled early in your morning in Europe can show the previous day.

Do I need to mark a video as a Short when I schedule it through an API? No. With our API there is no separate switch: send a short vertical clip and YouTube decides whether it appears as a Short, by its own rules.
